Fractions are, after, multiplication tables, one of the biggest difficulties for children of the Elementary School.
Ecco cosa ci dice Sandra :< Le frazioni sono, dopo le tabelline, uno dei più grandi scogli che i bambini incontrano alle elementari. Se non vengono ben capite, rimane in loro un senso di incapacità e di odio per la matematica. Per difendere l’amore per la matematica possiamo cercare di spiegare le frazioni ai bambini in modo

If they don’t understand them well,they feel a sense of inability and they begin to hate Maths. So to defend their love for Maths,we can explain fractions to children in an amusing way.
E ancora: < Nella mia didattica ho sempre usato qualcosa di tangibile per catturare l’attenzione e accendere la curiosità dei bambini. In particolare per le frazioni uso le barrette di cioccolato, i wafer, la pizza, ma soprattutto la torta, in modo da far vedere agli alunni dapprima l’intero (la torta intera) e successivamente, suddividendo man mano le fette e gustando qualche pezzetto, le diverse frazioni che si vengono a creare. >
In my teaching I have always used something real to capture their attention and arouse curiosity in my schoolchildren. In particular , for fractions I use chocolate bars, wafers, pizza or a cake in order to show them first, the whole and then, dividing them in slices or in pieces,and tasting some morsels,the different fractions which are created cutting them in pieces.
Io e Sandra abbiamo riflettuto su questa metafora e abbiamo pensato che la soluzione migliore era creare una torta…DI CARTA! Avete capito bene, abbiamo deciso di realizzare una torta da 8 fette, sana, dietetica e divertente per sperimentare in modo ludico le frazioni ( e non bisogna nemmeno lavarsi i denti dopo!).
Giuliana and I have created a cake made of eight slices: it can substitute very well a real one; it doesn’t make mess, it doesn’t fatten you up, you don’t need to brush your teeth and , last but not least, as soon as you finish you can start playing again and again. So, whenever children have to divide a cake for a birthday, to have a snack, etc.they will always revise fractions.
Nel file da scaricare troverete una fetta di torta in bianco e nero da colorare e montare. Ne dovete stampare otto. Se trovate più semplice partire con frazioni più piccole, potete accorpare le fette (due fette incollate insieme fanno 1/4).
In the download you will find a slice of cake in black and white to color and build. You have to print eight slices. If you think it’s easier to start with smaller fractions, you can paste the slices (two pieces pasted together make 1/4).

Ho preparato per voi anche un file che rappresenta il piatto sul quale appoggiare le fette di torta, con indicate le relative frazioni. In corrispondenza delle fette che ho disegnato sul piatto potete incollare le finestre che vedete sul foglio con le frazioni corrispondenti. Così ogni volta che i bambini sollevano la fetta di torta trovano la finestrella da aprire e leggono la frazione corrispondente.
I have prepared for you a file which represents the dish on which you can place the slices of cake. On this dish you can paste the flaps that you see on the sheet with the corresponding fractions. So whenever the children lift the slices of cake, they find the flap to open, and they can read the corresponding fraction.

In alternativa, le fette di torta possono essere usate dalle bambine più piccole quando giocano “alla merenda” con piatti e piattini giocattolo!
